EMERGENCY MOTION for Green Party Spring Conference 2021

PROHIBIT GENDERGP FROM OPERATING IN UK ON GROUNDS OF PATIENT SAFETY, LACK OF CHILD INFORMED CONSENT AND SAFEGUARDING FAILURES

The Green Party is extremely concerned to learn about the clinical practice of GenderGP in its treatment of patients reporting gender dysphoria, as exposed by the Telegraph Investigations Team (26 Feb 2021) and in an open letter by the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC), which explained their enforcement actions against two of GenderGP’s partner pharmacies in the UK, Clear Chemist and Pharmacyonline.co.uk (10 Feb 2021).

Conference believes GenderGP is putting patient safety at risk and compromising informed consent in child patients by providing too easy access to medicines to under-16s, sometimes without parental consent or physical examination; providing puberty blockers to children as young as 10 and hormones to others at 12; and not requiring all patients to speak to a doctor.

The GPhC intelligence-led inspections identified serious failures in governance and risk management at two of GenderGP’s UK partner pharmacies, and a lack of safeguarding, which posed an unacceptable risk to patient safety.

Conference calls upon the Care Quality Commission, Healthcare Improvement Scotland and Healthcare Inspectorate Wales to immediately debar GenderGP from operating in the UK on grounds of patient safety and to urgently investigate them.

Conference calls upon Green Party spokespersons nationally, locally and regionally to faithfully communicate our statement.
